Our Story

A Journey Through Generations of Coffee Excellence

At Kiraa Estate, we are more than just coffee farmers – we are stewards of a rich legacy rooted in generations of passion and expertise in coffee cultivation and processing. Our story began decades ago with Jonathan M’Kiaira, who planted the first coffee bushes in Kiraa village, Kenya, setting the foundation for what would become Kiraa Estate. Today, under the guidance of Joel Muriuki and his family, we continue this tradition of excellence, blending time-honored farming practices with modern innovations to produce some of the finest coffee beans in the region.

& processing plant

Kiraa Estate’s  coffee processing facility, where quality begins with hand-picking only the ripest cherries. Upon arrival, cherries undergo rigorous sorting to remove any underripe or overripe fruits, ensuring only the finest beans progress. Pulping machines delicately separate the pulp, initiating grading based on weight before beans undergo a 48-hour fermentation process in clean spring water, promoting depth of flavor and complexity.

Thorough washing and overnight soaking follow, enhancing sweetness and flavor. Expert sorting removes damaged or blemished beans before they are carefully sun-dried on raised beds over 1-3 weeks, ensuring consistent quality. Finally, beans are stored in conditioning bins until milling, reflecting Kiraa Estate’s unwavering commitment to excellence and precision in every cup.
